 Now Habitat for Humanity has upped the ante. At least in Boston that is. Instead of donating houses, Habitat for Humanity is daring philanthropists to donate barnhouses for impoverished farmers in Massachusetts.

 DuPont reaches out to farmers
  
 

  
 Chemical company DuPont is reaching out to farmers by creating an online tool as a go-between resource to farmers so they can enhance their ethanol and livestock yields. DuPont's subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred is also providing solutions to oilseed and grains processors all over the country.

 University of Minnesota at Crookston spearheads study of mass production of biofuels
  
 

  
 The University of Minnesota at Crookston agriculture management systems department is spearheading a research to mass-produce canola into biodiesel fuel. In two weeks’ time, the institution has already produced 600 gallons of oil. For each 100 pounds of canola seed, 30 pounds of that are converted into biodiesel or at 25 cents per pound. Aside from canola, the university is also tapping sunflowers and soybeans for their study.

 New tractors, combines, sawmills and a display of barn animals such as sheep, goats, llamas and chicken were featured in the silver anniversary of the New Hampshire Farm and Forest Exposition last February 8 to 9. All those who visited this year were both agricultural stakeholders and enthusiasts such as naturalists and even ordinary consumers. Congratulations!

 North Carolina gears up for drought
  
 

  
 North Carolina is gearing up for drought by conserving more water and searching for more wells. The state will also be appointing a water conservation director to coordinate their efforts in conserving water with health authorities. Rep. David Price has also promised to do everything he can to provide emergency assistance to farmers affected in the oncoming drought.

 Deere ups 55 percent sales for first quarter of this year
  
 

  
 John Deere soars its November-January earnings at 55 percent as compared to the same period last year. It grew from $5.2 billion this year as compared to only $4.43 billion last year. 37 percent of the growth comes from overseas sales while 18 percent come from domestic sales. Because of this trend, John Deere attributes the increase in sales to the sinking of the dollar to higher farm equipment demand abroad because of higher farm product prices.

 Arkansas county farmers gather for large strategic meeting
  
 

  
 Farmers in Berryville, Arkansas will gather together this Saturday to plan their next steps in ensuring the sustainability of the agriculture industry in the county. This meeting comes at a time when one Republican - former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee - and one Democrat - former Arkansas First Lady Hillary Clinton - are battling it out to gain their respective parties' nomination for the United States presidency. The farmers understand that if an Arkansas native is elected as US president, they will surely have greater lobbying chances. They want the folks in Berryville to buy more local produce. They also want to open up more markets throughout the state, throughout the country and even overseas. Good luck!

 Michigan develops software to bridge farmers and consumers
  
 

  
 The Michigan State University has developed a software for consumers in the state to research where they can find the exact farm produce they want. Under this scheme, farmers have to register online for free and post adverts for their products. Consumers can then browse through the catalog also for free.

 Mixing agriculture and mileage? Unlikely but true
  
 

  
 It can be when farmers start producing ethanol for car owners here in Wisconsin. In fact, a car totally using ethanol as fuel will have test drives during the fifth annual Agricultural Showcase of the state on March 1 at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds. Wisconsin is producing 291 million gallons of ethanol annually.
